Lecture #1

Lab Reviews:

Describe and interpret findings associated with liver functions tests. Discuss the meaning of altered values from the blood chemistry screening. Differentiate rationales for use of BUN & Creatinine. Indentify implications of abnormal electrolytes.

Lecture #2

Coding:

Explain documentation requirements as they pertain to the history and examination key components. Recognize how to correctly charge patients for an encounter based on the medical decision making. List examples that pertain to the types of diagnoses and treatment options handled during a visit. Differentiate the data elements clinically needed to arrive at the medical decisions of a patient interaction.

State Board Update:

Discuss Introduced Legislative Updates. Discuss Nursing Board Memberships, latest Committee meetings. APRN Roundtable updates.

Lecture #4

Anemia:

Discuss implications from altered red blood cell analysis.

Lecture #5

Pharmacology Update:

Discuss the indications and therapeutic usefulness for each new drug discussed. Describe and apply important adverse effects.Describe any important drug interactions and pharmacokinetic parameters that are clinically relevant. Discuss any evidence-based clinical trials that may be published about the medications to aid in therapeutic selection.

Lecture #6

Adolescent GYN/UTI:

Appreciate aspects of the gynecologic exam specific to adolescents. Identify specific scenarios in which pelvic examination is indicated in the adolescents. Understand the evaluation and management of abnormal cervical cytology and histology. Discuss varying forms of female incontinence disorders. Develop an increased understanding of pelvic floor disorders and treatment options.

Lecture #7

Pediatric Metabolic Syndrome:

Define Metabolic Syndrome in teens. Appreciate the magnitude of obesity and metabolic syndrome in teens. Understand appropriate screening for at-risk teens. Explore the existence of co-morbid conditions. Introduce SCICORD and its initiative.

Lecture #8

Herbal Supplements:

Provide participant with a brief history of herbs and allopathic Medicine. Discuss how herbs have made a contribution to modern medicine. Incorporate modern diet and its side effects as it relates to Diabetes, Gout, Blood pressure, Cholesterol and Obesity.

Lecture #9

POEMS Vs. DOES:

Discuss different type of research papers that provide outcomes that change the practitioner’s practice of medicine. Understand concepts of relative risk reduction, absolute risk reduction, numbers needed to treat, numbers needed to harm and statistical measures affecting interpretation. Discuss how evidence can be used to make practical pharmacotherapy decisions benefiting the patient and reduce cost. Discuss treatment decisions based on efficacy, safety, and cost.

MRIs & CT Scans:

Discuss best imaging tests to utilize with abdominal pain. Explain expectations using imaging tests available.

Lecture #11

Hypogonadism:

Define hypogonadism (prevalence, pathophysiology, consequence). Discuss how to diagnose hypogonadism (signs and symptoms, blood tests, questionnaire, Endocrine Society guidelines). Examine methods to treat hypogonadism (injections, patches, gels, monitoring, potential benefits).

Lecture #12

15 Minute Psych Visit in Primary Care:

Educate participant in recognition of red flags suggesting need to assess for a mental health problem. Increase knowledge of medical and substance abuse conditions complicating or mimicking a psychiatric disorder. Educate participant in tools available for initial screening and evaluation of common psychiatric conditions. Introduce and increase knowledge about treatment options for common psychiatric conditions. Recognize and be prepared for a real office psychiatric emergency

Lecture #13

Chronic Fatigue:

Review pathophysiology and causes of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Understand causes and risk factors for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Demonstrate knowledge of available tests and diagnosis of CFS. Identify treatment and drugs used to deal with CFS.

Lecture #14

Hypertension:

Apply concepts and principles underlying pathophysiology of hypertension. Identify comorbidities contributing to cardiovascular risks. Demonstrate knowledge for hypertension management. Demonstrate knowledge of clinical interventions and current clinical practice guidelines.

Lecture #15

Strains, Sprains & Tendonitis:

Differentiate the differences of sprains, strains & Tendonitis. Demonstrate proper physical exam to support diagnosis of sprains, strains tendonitis. Discuss non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic therapy options.

Lecture #16

Pelvic Exams:

Recite the female genitalia anatomy. Cite the procedure for bimanual and speculum exam. Recognize the abnormal and normal findings for a female exam.

Lecture #17

Bio-Identical Hormones:

Introduce and increase knowledge about Bio Identical Hormone. Replacement Therapy and its uses. Discuss differences between bio-identical and synthetic hormones. Demonstrate knowledge of which symptoms that are relieved with bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. Describe what types of bio-identical hormone replacement therapy are available.

Lecture #18

Diabetes:

Describe Diabetes disease process and treatment options. Incorporate nutritional and physical activity management into lifestyle. Discuss medication safety for maximum therapeutic effectiveness. Interpret blood glucose monitoring and other parameters for self management decision making.

Lecture #19

Fibromyalgia Syndrome:

Verbalize the fundamentals of Fibromyalgia Syndrome. Review the basic pathophysiology of Fibromyalgia Syndrome. Develop a comprehensive diagnostic workup for Fibromyalgia Syndrome. Identify pharmacologic treatments for Fibromyalgia Syndrome.

Lecture #20

Dermatology:

Discuss basic dermatology concepts. Understand dermatologic approach to a skin disease.

Oceanfront Guest Rooms $65.00
Ocean view guest rooms $56.00

Required deposit: We require the first night deposit of room and tax to guarantee your reservations. Individuals may use their credit card to guarantee their reservation; or, they may send a check or money order within ten (10) days of the day they make the reservation with the hotel. If the check is not received within the ten (10) day period the reservation is automatically cancelled.

Add $8.00 per adult per night for third or fourth additional adult in the room or angle suites. A maximum of four (4) adults are permitted in any room or suite. All rates are subject to South Carolina State and local taxes, currently 11.0%. All rooms and suites are subject to a $3.50 per night resort fee. This fee is subject to tax, currently 7.0%.

This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the Georgia Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

A maximum 17 contact hours available for full attendance. A "Social" will be held on Thursday evening after the last presentation an all attendees, speakers and vendors are invited.
